Liposuction
Liposuction, or liposculpture, is a cosmetic operation that can permanently remove adipose tissue from the body.
It can be performed on the stomach, hips, thighs, knees, calves, back and arms, and chin.
Liposuction is still the most frequently performed cosmetic surgical procedure in Switzerland and one of the most popular procedures performed by Zurich cosmetic surgeon Dr. Christian Niehus. Dr. Niehus has been performing liposuction in Zurich for several years and is considered one of the best surgeons the city has to offer.
Liposuction is the gold standard method for permanently reducing fat deposits and improving contours in areas affected by excess fat deposits. Your fat cells are spread throughout your body early in life, which is determined by your genetics. Fat cells cannot migrate or multiply, and once removed, they cannot come back at that location. Therefore, any contour improvement achieved with liposuction is a lasting improvement and persists even as the patient gains weight.
In women, liposuction is most commonly used for the following treatments:
- waistline
- riding pants (outer thighs)
- hips
- abdomen
- Inner thighs
- Extensive thighs
- knees
- arms
- calves
In men, liposuction is often used to treat the following:
- hip
- underbelly
- Under the chin
- chest
Men are often interested in abdominal, waist and chest treatment. In most cases, patients choose to have two or more areas treated in one procedure.
Liposuction - technique
The technique for removing adipose tissue is based on a suction mechanism which is generated by a high-pressure vacuum. So-called cannulas are used to achieve this.
Liposuction removes fat cells permanently and changes the shape of the body. It is worthwhile to maintain a healthy lifestyle after the procedure, as the remaining fat cells can still respond to weight gain.
The amount of fat that can be safely removed is limited. In principle, it is not important how much fat tissue is removed, but the right amount in the right place.
There are several technical methods in liposuction.
Waterjet Assisted liposuction: With WAL, fat is removed from the tissue structure with significantly less force, which significantly reduces the risk of side effects. The surrounding connective tissue, nerves and blood vessels remain significantly less traumatized.
Power Assisted or Vibration Assisted Liposuction: PAS uses a special cannula with a mechanized system, which dissolves part of the adipose tissue through vibration.
Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction: This emulsifies or liquefies the fat, which makes suction easier. This method is suitable for fibrous areas, such as the male chest, back, and areas where liposuction has been performed before.
Liposuction - anesthetic practices
If these are small zones, you will be treated with a tumescent anesthesia treated. In the process, a saltwater solution and anesthetic are infiltrated into the tissue to be treated. You are fully conscious but pain-free. You can leave the operating room the same day.
However, if the zones are large or multiple areas, we recommend a Sedation or anesthesia. They are supervised by our specialized anesthetic team.
On request, the first night can be spent in our clinic.
Liposuction - after surgery
Either an elastic support corset or bandages are adjusted for the target area. Antibiotic prophylaxis may be administered immediately after surgery. Pain relievers can help reduce pain and swelling.
The surgeon removes the stitches in a follow-up appointment. Numbness and bruises may occur in the treated area. This should improve in 2 to 8 weeks.
